Step-One Towards a Career: Workshop on ResumeWriting
Placement Committee of DME Media School organized a two-day workshop on Resume Writing for the students of its first and final year on 28th January and for the second-yearstudents on 29th January 2020 in the Seminar Room of the college. The sessions attended by a total of 237 students was the first of many steps towards making them career-ready before their graduation.
Resource person for the workshop, Dr Ravikant Swami, Director, Delhi Metropolitan Education, began the sessions by explaining some of the industry jargons. He elaborated on the differences between frequently interchanged terms – biodata, curriculum vitae and resume. He then elucidated upon the appropriate formats, sequencing and contents to be included in each. Intermittently, Dr Swami also talked about the art of answering questions during an interview. He stressed on the importance of conducting a SWOT analysis for self before one mentions their key skills in the CV or resume.
The floor was opened for questions in the last lap where several doubts were put forth. It was an enriching experience for the students, especially the final year which is gearing up for jobs and further education.

Workshop on Portfolio Making
Placement Committee, DME Media School, on 29th January 2020, in its efforts to provide industry insights and relevant information on recruitment of new graduates, organized a workshop on Portfolio Making for the final year Journalism and Mass Communication students. The workshop was facilitated by DrPoojaArora, a public relations professional with more than 10 years of experience. Dr Poojais a DPS RK Puram alumna andhas been associated with reputed organizations throughout her career.
As part of the workshop, students were required to bring their academic recordsand certificates of all workshops, seminars, and conferences attended by them in and outside the college, internship records, internship certificates and a brag sheetwhich contained questions pertaining to their achievements, interests, personal strengths and weaknesses.
The workshop began with a discussion of brag sheets; how to overcome one’s weaknesses and turn them into strengths. DrPooja emphasized the importance of online courses available today. To make the workshop engaging, she asked the audience to differentiate between CV and a Résumé. The initial discussion was followed by presentation on the following topics:
- How to write a cover letter, its structure, and tips on how to write a cover letter.
- Resume writing, its elements, what must be included in a Resume (name, contact details, professional skills, work and projects, educational qualifications)and tips on how to write a Resume.
- How to write a personal statement
Based on the presentation, Dr Poojaexplained when to write a skill-based Résumé and when to write work experience-based Resume. Throughout the session, sheemphasized on the need of building a skill set, the importance of notable achievements and how to align objectives with the objectives of target organizations to improve the chances of getting recruited.
The session concluded with a short discussion on Statement-of-Purpose (SoP), which is a short essay about the applicant, required by the foreign Universities/colleges to assess the aptitude of the applicant; and discussion on how to write a professional bio. She highlighted that employers are increasingly turning towards LinkedIn in search of new candidates and that, having an up-to-date LinkedIn profile is a must. As an exercise, she asked all the attendees to write a professional bio about themselves. Ms Krishna Pandey, Assistant Professor, DME Media School, concluded the workshop with a formal vote of thanks.

Internships and Placements
Training and Placement cell provides ample opportunities to our media students to get assignments at top media houses. This process begins with inviting Media persons for guest talks and thereby making them mentors for our students. Our Training & Placement Cell works towards increasing the employability of the students in terms of right exposure and consequently providing them ideal platforms. Our students have proven their talent at various media houses. Various skill development programs are conducted from time to time to update our students with new media requirements. Among those who have taken on our BJMC students are:
Delhi Metropolitan Education (DME) organized Placement Week during March 25-29, 2019. DME Media School too participated in this placement drive involving participation of large number of students. Five companies visited the campus to recruit students for different departments and areas. They showed interest in recruiting copywriters, content writers, filmmakers, production team, event organizers, video editors and video makers.
DAY 1
On March 25, 2019, Infoaxon and Aptara visited the campus to recruit content writers and copywriters. Infoaxon is an IT based company providing services to create a digital environment. Aptara is a service provider for multipurpose platforms and they require copywriters for their different departments.
For Apatara seven students were registered and they all appeared in the Interview.

Out of these 7 candidates, Himani Jain and Jahnavi Sharma were shortlisted by the panel after first round of interview. Himani Jain was called for the final round in the office of the company.
Infoaxon shortlisted 10 students, conducted pre- placement drive and called them for personal interview. Out of these 10 students, 3 were called at their office for the final round.

DAY 2
On 27 March, 2019 C-Vent Software solution provider to events company visited campus to recruit BA (JMC) and BBA students. Total 65 students registered for C-vent out of which 26 students were from Media school. The company briefed about its working and functioning in the pre-placement drive which is followed by group discussion. 12 students were shortlisted for aptitude test after GD. The aptitude test lasted for 45 minutes. The lone student, selected from BBA for the final round, was called in the company office.
