Aloha, the annual cultural festival of Delhi Metropolitan Education (DME) affiliated to Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University was held on a stretch of two days that were on 31st January 2019 and 1st February 2019.

Day 1

The Guest of honor was Mr. Arvind Gaur, who runs the famous Asmita Theatre Group in Delhi, which is infamous in making Plays surrounding social issues in the country. He is a proficient individual who has directed many Street Plays as well as Theatre Plays pertained to political and social matters. Than later the guest of honor gave an enlightening speech discussing the importance of youth in addressing the socio-political issues through various means. Thereupon, anchors Saurabh and Megha, the entertaining duo gave rise to more fun when they recalled some of the interesting dialogues from the films where Mr. Arvind Gaur has played a role earlier, the crowd showed their enthusiasm by cheering and enjoying the moment.

The day became more exciting with the video showcasing the highlights of DME COLLEGE, followed by the speech of Vice-Chairman Mr. Aman Sahni. The glimpse of the DME FAMILY; the whole team behind Aloha, who had put the event together. DME MUSIC SOCIETY gave the first performance to embrace and energize the audience. The festival declared Open by Rose Verma, a DME Alumnus, who was the ambassador of DME COLLEGE 2013. He is the founder of ‘ALOHA’, currently a practicing advocate in High court and NCLT, he delivered his wise words to the audience and the audience appreciated in revert.

RANGOLI COMPETITION

The Rangoli competition started around 12 PM in the reception and BJMC corridor area which saw participation from various colleges as well as students from DME. The theme of the same was Environment. Students showed their creative abilities and made beautiful Rangolis adding to the beauty of the Fest. The competition was Judged by Ms. Divya Rastogi. She was welcomed by Ms. Navjot Suri, Ms. Komal Kapoor and Ms. Akansha Marwa who efficiently organized the event.

SOLO AND GROUP SINGING

The overwhelming response from the audience set the mark for our success in the music event. Was held at the Amphitheatre, the rhythms and the beats of the Indian and Western singing competitions resonated around the entire college. It was judged by the very proficient lady Ms. Anupama, who not only assessed the participants and audience but also directed the way of singing in an impressive way. With the greatest hits of Bollywood, the solo singing competition mesmerized everyone. The event was scheduled from 11:30m and it took 2 hours to complete. It involved 25 participants who presented varied songs.

Furthermore, interestingly a team also represented the song with beat boxing. The instrumental songs presented in the competition added to the ambiance of the event. It was an enjoyable afternoon with such exemplary participants.

DEBATE

The Debate Competition had the topic of Euthanasia. Teams from all around Delhi NCR had participated in the war of words. The morality of Euthanasia has always been in question. The Debaters extensively debated on Passive and Active Euthanasia. The Debate was bi-lingual, ie: Both Hindi and English language were permitted. The guest for the event was Dr. Sachin Rastogi, who also judged the same.

SHORT MOVIE, RJ HUNT AND ONLINE PHOTOGRAPHY

The Studio 62 of DME hosted 3 events.

1- Short Movie Making Competition, The Guest of Honour for the event was Ms. Garima Thareja who has done immense work in the field of Radio and Television. The Theme for the event was “21st Century Women”. The participants showed their creativity and skills in making some of the inspiring short films we had witnessed in a long time.

2- RJ Hunt, with Ms. Garima Thareja as Judge and Guest of Honour, with the simple rules of keeping the content clean and summing it up within 3 minutes the competition began. The participants touched topics like Women Empowerment, Issues of College Students and Need for Cleanliness.

3- Online Photography, The Guest of Honour for this event was Mr. Ashraf Ali, who has been associated with the industry for over 40 years with an immense experience in Photography and Media. The Participants utilized and explored the Theme which covered Culture, Religion, Architecture, Celebration etc.

NUKKAD NATAK

It created an exotic aura which could be seen among the audience after watching the tremendous performances by the participants from different colleges, who presented Nukkad Natak on various ongoing issues dealt by the society nowadays, in a very imaginative manner. The competition was judged by Mr. Tarun Kohli. It was the most robust performance done by the participants which left the whole crowd stunned. After watching the performances, it was difficult not only for the judge but also the audience to reckon which performance was the best, as all the team’s performed outstanding and competently. The event was scheduled from 2:30pm. It involved 8 participating teams. With the relentless applause from the audience, this event ended the first day of the fest. It marked the end of the first day of the festival, but the pleasure and the joy amassed by the audience was unrivalled.

DAY-2

Mr. AND Ms. ALOHA

The event was dashing and toned by the participants from 8 different colleges. The shade took another level by the vibrant and the brilliant performances by the participants. The event had three levels to be judged by Ms. Sheeba Matta, Guest of Honour and Judge for the event. The participants displayed their talent by humour, skills and spontaneity. Ms. Aloha was won by Ms. Isha and Mr. Aloha was won by Mr. Kamran Khan.

SOLO DANCE

Held at Nelson Mandela Auditorium, the Solo Dance event witnessed participation from several colleges from Delhi university and Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University in a show of individual creativity and talent. The show was started by a classical dance performance followed by Hip-Hop, Bollywood and Break-Dance. It was a tough competition between more than 10 participants judged by Ms. Chandrakanta Tripathi.

GROUP DANCE

Might just be the most energetic event of Aloha, The Group Dance Competition, was held in the Amphitheatre of Delhi Metropolitan Education on the 2nd day of the Festival. Judged by Mr. Sagar Chand, the event witnessed participation from various Dance Societies of Delhi University and other renowned Colleges. The participants through the medium of Dance touched socio-political topics as well. The audience was mesmerized by the energy and creativity of the participants.

FASHION SHOW

The day was ignited with this event. The fashion show of Aloha 2020 set the stage on fire. Fashion divas and handsome hunks from renowned colleges pumped the audience. It was held on 1st February at 1pm with Ms. Sheeba Matta as the esteemed judge. The groups were judged on the basis of creativity, innovation and the formations. The participants touched subjects like Rape, LGBTQ+ and Armed Forces. The IGTUW secured the first position showcasing their fashion sense and standing on all the fashion hallmarks, College of Vocational Studies secured the second position and Aurobindo College secured the third position in the event. The group presented the role of women as pride, the glory for a solder and on the issues of transgender.

The Closing Ceremony of Aloha started with a beautiful Bhangda performance by the students of Delhi Metropolitan Education followed by a Duet and a Bollywood Dance performance which lifted the audience off their seats. This was followed by a beautiful closing video of Aloha which showed the Highlights of the Festival. The joyous event ended with a brief DJ session at the end.
